How to get a verified WhatsApp Business account

In the social media era, we have all gotten accustomed to the ‘verification badge’. Whether that’s on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter. It shows that an account is deemed official, and gives off a sense of legitimacy and importance. In this blog, I’ll explain how to get your WhatsApp Business account verified in order to also get that green tick on WhatsApp Business.

We’ll discuss the following topics:

  • What is a verified WhatsApp Business account
  • Requirements for a verified WhatsApp Business account
  • How to verify your WhatsApp Business account

What is a verified WhatsApp Business account

Before I explain how to get a verified WhatsApp Business account, let’s first determine what it actually is.

An account can be listed as either a regular business account or an official business account. Whenever a company has a green badge next to their name, it means they’re an official account and are therefore verified. Without using the WhatsApp Business API, you can’t request or pay for an official account.

Aside from the green badge exuding trustworthiness, another positive effect is that customers that have not saved your phone number will still automatically see your brand name displayed.

Requirements for a verified WhatsApp Business account

According to a help center article of WhatsApp, being listed as an ‘official WhatsApp Business account’ is based on a variety of factors. The only factor they mention is ‘being notable’.

They don’t explain what they mean by ‘notable’. However, there are a couple of other things we presume to be criteria:

  • You have already built up some brand awareness
  • Larger companies are more likely to be verified than smaller companies
  • You have a WhatsApp Business account
  • You have a verified Facebook Business account
  • You have been using the WhatsApp Business API for 3 months

How to verify your WhatsApp Business account

By following the following four steps, you have a shot at getting your hands on that green badge.

Step 1: Start using the WhatsApp Business API

Trengo enables companies to connect the official WhatsApp Business API to a customer service platform. In this platform, teams can use WhatsApp Business with more than one user at the same time. After signing up, you can submit your application for the API like this:

It’s straightforward and fast. Via Trengo, you can sign up for multiple official WhatsApp Business API providers.

Step 2: Verify your Facebook Business Account

Like I said earlier, you need to make sure that your Facebook Business account is verified first. To check if you still need to do this, go to business.facebook.com/settings/info, and take the following steps:

  1. Go to your Facebook Business Manager and then go to Security Center.
  2. Next, go to the ‘verification’ section and click ‘start verification’.
  3. Enter your company details.
  4. Select your company.
  5. Don’t forget to confirm.
  6. Verify your domain.

Step 3: Trengo does the rest

After three months of using the WhatsApp Business API via Trengo, we can start the application for the green tick on WhatsApp Business.
