Meta WhatsApp pricing update · 1 October 2026

The WhatsApp price change doesn't have to cost you more

From 1 October, two things that used to be free start costing you: the replies and the utility templates you send inside WhatsApp's 24-hour customer window. You can't change the rate, but you can change your bill. Here's how.

The WhatsApp Price Change Explained: 5 Ways to Make It Work for You

What actually changes on 1 October 2026

Your replies stop being free

The replies your team sends inside the 24-hour customer window have always been free. From 1 October, Meta charges for every message.

Utility templates get a price tag

Order updates, delivery notifications, payment confirmations. Utility templates sent inside an open service window used to be free, from 1 October, each one costs.

Switching providers won't save you costs

Meta sets these rates for the entire platform. Changing provider doesn't change the bill. The only thing that moves the number is how many of these messages you send — and how smartly.

What isn't changing: marketing and authentication templates were already charged, so their pricing stays the same. Meta only charges on delivery, and rates vary by country.

Please note:

Every phone number gets 1,000 free service messages each month, so you'll only start paying from the 1,001st message.

This calculator gives you an estimate based on total volume and doesn't subtract that free allowance, so your actual cost will likely be a bit lower than the number shown above.

Practical ways to reduce your costs

Each one is a practical, effective way to take control of what you spend — put them into practice and see which work best for your business. Your exact result will always come down to your region and your message mix, since that's where Meta sets the rate.

Combine messages

Send one complete, well-structured reply instead of three fragments. Fewer outbound messages means fewer billable units for the same answer.

Clean up obsolete rule-based automations

Legacy flows and auto-replies quietly fire messages nobody reads. Audit them and switch off anything that no longer serves the customer.

Use AI Agents to consolidate answers

An AI Agent can gather context and resolve a question in a single coherent response, rather than a back-and-forth chain of short replies.

Offer lower-cost channels where they fit

Live chat, email and self-service handle plenty of routine questions perfectly well. Route those conversations where they cost less to serve.

Keep WhatsApp where it earns its place

WhatsApp still converts, retains and delights. Keep it for the conversations that generate revenue, and be deliberate about the rest.

Turn every conversation into a smarter investment

Trengo gives you the visibility and the automation to make each message count — across WhatsApp and every other channel your customers use.

Automation clean-up

Channel routing

Steer low-value conversations to live chat, email or self-service where that serves the customer just as well.

Message insight & reporting

See message volume, reply counts and template usage per team, so cost conversations start with facts.

Template governance

Keep utility and marketing templates under review, with clear ownership of what gets sent and why.
